Once I calmed him I placed him in another cage and that is when I saw his back legs. We think he will heal as for the fracture. However he will never hop right and more than likely not use a back leg.
He will always need special care. As my vet said normally happens if they fall or get drop but in the cage normally don't hear about. Yet it does happen, rabbits have very fragile backs.
Right now 2 very quiet week of cage rest, than we take him back for X-rays. Our hope he is starting to heal. Our vet thought about surgery but the one place in MA (Tuffs) even said they wouldn't do it because it would cause more issues. Now it can take a full 8 weeks to fully recover and cage rest which is okay.
He does get butt baths 2 times day, baby ointment, than gets his fur blow dried (which he loves). We have baby wipes on hand, he also has his own load of laundry.
Every morning we start our day out with a butt bath, than we need to comb out his fur while blow drying his fur which can take 1hr, after we add A&D ointment to his skin around his private. This is needed due to he can't use this litter box like he use to so he can get a little unrine burn. This helps so much!
After we we clean his cage and place clean fresh blankets down. Fresh pellets, hay and water that had chamomile added to his water to help relax him. Also every morning he gets his metacam which is a pain/ anti-inflammatory medication for him.
Now he gets 2 butt baths a day to keep his bum clean. Also his bedding gets changed throughout the day and I do a load of laundry for Sven daily.
I will say it is defiantly a task but it is all worth it each day! Please pray for him daily as he still has a long road to recovery!
